This week we talked about how math is connected to everything- buildings, science, music, sports, cooking, etc..... Chapter 3 focused on large number subtraction, and subtraction across zeros. The class will finish this chapter and review the chapter on Tuesday. The test on our subtraction with regrouping chapter will be on Monday of next week. The kids have done a nice job in daily work taking their time and working through regrouping. They have also learned how to find a reasonable answer using estimation. Our best tool to help us we have found is using addition to check our subtraction. The students have learned that addition and subtraction are inverse operation, so they undo each other. What a great way to check our answers.
The review will come home on Tuesday. Please go over the questions with your child and reinforce the skills at home. (Some kids still struggle a little when subtracting across zeros and regrouping.) The review can be signed by you and your child will get 5 extra credit points on their test. They can also use their review and the math book when taking the test.
Reminder: I read all of the math tests aloud. If your child is unhappy about their grade, they can redo the test, you sign the test, and when it is returned to me I will give them 1/2 of the points that they missed back to them.
